Today Boeing is the Worlds largest manufacturer of
airliners with only Airbus as significant or major competitor. The Boeing
747 or "Jumbo Jet" first entered service in 1970 as the 747-100 series,
the 747 series remained the largest airliners flying and in production for
thirty seven years until the advent of the Airbus A380 in 2007. The Boeing
747-400 series entered service in February 1989, a freighter version four
years later, it is the only 747 series still in production although Boeing
intends to introduce a new stretched version, the "747-8
Intercontinental".

national airline of New Zealand, originally formed in April 1940 as Tasman
Empire Airways Limited, TEAL was nationalized in April 1965 becoming Air
New Zealand and the national airline. Air New Zealand currently runs a
mixed fleet of Airbus, Aerospatiale, Boeing, Beech, Bombardier and Saab
aircraft, Boeing 747 and 777 airliners being used for it's International
Long Haul services.
