about the McDonnell Douglas MD-82
McDonnell Douglas was formed
by the merger of McDonnell and Douglas during mid April 1967, the company was to
remain a major aircraft manufacturer until it's merger with Boeing
during
1997.
McDonnell Douglas renamed
their DC-9-82 range to the MD-82 range in 1983, the DC-9-82 becoming the
MD-82. The MD-82 is based on the older DC-9 design fitted with new
twin JT8D-217s engines and having it's fuselage stretched by a further
3.86m. The production of the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 range of aircraft
ceased in January 2000 following the 1997 merger with Boeing.

SkyTeam Alliance in 2001, Alitalia,s current aircraft fleet consists of
