Boeing was setup in
Washington by William E. Boeing on 15th July 1916, initially as the “Pacific Aero
Products Co.” and was re-named the “Boeing Airplane Company” on the 9th of
May 1917.
The Boeing 747 or "Jumbo Jet"
first entered passenger service during 1970 as the 100 series, a few of
this series are still in use. The 747 series
airliners remained the largest airliners flying and in production for thirty seven
years until the title passed to the Airbus A380 in 2007. The Boeing 400 series
747's entered service in February 1989 and a freighter version in 1993,
the 400 series
is the only 747 airliners still in production although Boeing intends to
produce a stretched version of the Jumbo jet, the "747-8
Intercontinental".

British Airways was Founded as
Imperial Airways in 1924 following the merger of Instone, Handley Page,
Daimler Airways and British Air Marine Navigation. In 1939 the British
government nationalised Imperial Airways and British Airways and named the
resultant company British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). In 1972
BOAC and BEA were combined to create British Airways, the UK's national
airline, in 1987 British Airways was privatised. In 1988 BA acquired
British Caledonian, and in 1992 acquired Dan-Air making it the second
largest airline in Europe. BA operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing
airliners.
