The famous Boeing company was incorporated in
Washington by William E. Boeing in July 1916, initialy as the “Pacific Aero
Products Co.” but re-named the “Boeing Airplane Company” in
May 1917. Today Boeing has become the Worlds largest manufacturer of
airliners, only Airbus is a significant major competitor.
The Boeing 747 or "Jumbo Jet"
series of airliners first entered service in 1970 as the 747-100 series, the 747 series
was the largest airliner type flying and in production for a thirty seven
year period until the advent of the Airbus A380 in 2007. The current Boeing 747-400 series
passenger Jumbo jets entered service in February 1989, and a freighter
variant just four years later, it's curently the only 747 series plane still in production although Boeing intends to
build a new stretched version of the Jumbo jet, the "747-8
Intercontinental".

British Airways was Founded as
Imperial Airways in 1924 following the merger of Instone, Handley Page,
Daimler Airways and British Air Marine Navigation. In 1939 the British
government nationalised Imperial Airways and British Airways and named the
resultant company British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). In 1972
BOAC and BEA were combined to create British Airways, the UK's national
airline, in 1987 British Airways was privatised. In 1988 BA acquired
British Caledonian, and in 1992 acquired Dan-Air making it the second
largest airline in Europe. BA operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing
airliners.
