Boeing has become the Worlds largest manufacturer of
airliners with only Airbus as significant or major competitor. The Boeing
747 or "Jumbo Jet" first entered service in 1970 as the 747-100 series,
the 747 series remained the largest airliners flying and in production for
thirty seven years until the advent of the Airbus A380 in 2007. The Boeing
747-400 series entered service in February 1989, a freighter version four
years later, it is the only 747 series still in production.
