McDonnell Douglas was formed
by the merger of McDonnell and Douglas in April 1967, the company was to
remain a major aircraft manufacturer until it's merger with Boeing in
1997. The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 is
a triple-engined medium to long-range wide-body airliner designed as a
replacement for the aging DC-8 airliner, it entered service in 1971,
production continued until December 1988. The McDonnell Douglas
DC-10-30(F) is a purpose built freight version powered by three General
Electric CF6-50 turbofan engines combined with larger fuel tanks to
increase range.
