Dan-Air
Dan-Air (Dan Air Services Limited) was formed in the UK in May 1953 as a
subsidiary of Davies and Newman (DAN) providing passenger and cargo
services. Dan-Air became the first UK airline to have a female pilot in
command on on a jet airliner in 1975. Dan-Air ceased operations in 1992
following major financial problems and was sold to British Airways for a
nominal £1 fee.
It is of note that Dan-Air
operated the world's largest fleet of De Havilland Comets (the first
operational jet airliner) and were also the last airline to operate a De
Havilland comet commercially in 1981.
