Information
about the De Havilland DH-106 Comet 4
The de Havilland Comet jet
airliner first flew in 1949 and was the world's first production
commercial jet airliner. The Comet initially suffered serious fatigue
problems due to having square passenger windows which resulted in a
series of fatal crashes, redesigning the airframe with round windows
resulted in a reliable airliner. It is of note that the BOAC De
Havilland DH-106 Comet 4 pictured above became the first jet airliner to
cross the Atlantic carrying fare-paying passengers on the 4th of October
1958 whilst in service with BOAC.
Boeing 767 was launched in
1978 primarily as a replacement for the successful but aging Boeing 707,
it's almost a wide-body jet variant of the Boeing 757 airliner which was
introduced about the same time. The Boeing 767-300/ER series are a
lengthened 200 series 767 combined with an "extended-range" of 11,305 km,
they were introduced into service during 1988.
Information
about Dan-Air
Dan-Air (Dan Air Services
Limited) was formed in the UK in May 1953 as a totally owned subsidiary
of Davies and Newman (DAN) and ceased operations in 1992 following major
financial problems resulting in it's sale to British Airways for a
nominal £1 fee. It is of note that Dan-Air operated the world's largest
fleet of De Havilland Comets (the first operational jet airliner) and
were also the last airline to operate a De Havilland comet commercially
in 1981.
